Artist Spotlight: Ben Konkol

My current body of work is expressed in organic line work. The initial concept is drafted in a flat ink composition. I build Photoshop brushes and textures to create depth and I use subtle gradients and simple color palettes to create moods. The end form is digital and graphic.

It’s compelling to look at the ways that humans manipulate their environment, or are manipulated by it, and to report on it visually. To this end, subject matter is dressed in, or juxtaposed with the context of an urban environment. By portraying animals as analogous with humans, I hope to stimulate thoughts about our relationship with nature, and the erroneous attitudes towards mental health that are propagated by materialistic culture.
